The High Commissioner for the Protection of Rights, Anne Eastwood, and her deputy, Cécile Vacarie-Bernard, were received at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council on 11 March 2021. The meeting took place at the invitation of the Council’s President, Ms Caroline Rougaignon-Vernin, to discuss the recommendations set out in the most recent report on the High Commissioner’s activities.
The discussions highlighted the complementarity between some of the recommendations issued by the High Commissioner following her review of complaints submitted by citizens, and the work and intentions of the Council, covering, for example, measures to address issues surrounding the occupation and commercial use of state-owned property.
This was the third meeting with the Economic, Social and Environmental Council since the Office of the High Commissioner was created in 2014. It illustrated once again the value of this dialogue between the two institutions to enrich and coordinate their mutual thinking as they seek to fulfil their mission of advising the authorities.
