On 20 and 21 March 2018, the High Commissioner visited Brussels to take part in a working group to finalise a guide to conduct and ethics for mediators and ombudsmen in French-speaking countries and regions.
The principles of good conduct which have been brought together in this document are the result of discussions begun during the work of the Rabat seminar in May 2017. The principles are designed to provide a source of inspiration that will guide mediators and their colleagues in their professional practice, and to contribute to the quality and effectiveness of their efforts on behalf of citizens.
The guide to conduct and ethics is a flagship project of the European presidency of the Association des Ombudsmans et Médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF, Association of Ombudsmen and Mediators of La Francophonie) under Marc Bertrand, Ombudsman for Wallonia and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. It will be presented for adoption by all members at the next AOMF Congress, due to be held in Belgium in November 2018, before the re-election of the network’s governing bodies and the election of a new President, this time drawn from the African region, for a three-year term.
