The High Commissioner team hosted a group of volunteer students from the Lycée Albert I high school and their teacher, Ms Audrey Cheynut, as part of their Stop Hate project.
Launched earlier this year, the initiative consists of a series of education and awareness workshops focusing on the themes of freedom of expression and hate speech, to teach high school students how to spot and challenge hate speech wherever they encounter it.
The meeting between the High Commissioner team and the curious students eager to help build a fairer world led to some lively discussion. The High Commissioner and her team outlined the institution’s different roles, listed international anti-discrimination issues, and reminded the students that in the Principality, although there are some rules for certain sectors, there is still no framework law in place to combat discrimination.
The students behind the Stop Hate project then had the opportunity to ask about the types of discrimination encountered and what the High Commissioner does about them, while also asking questions prompted by their own personal experiences.
The High Commissioner team was delighted to be able to meet with a group of young people showing such a strong commitment and interest in social and justice issues.
