The Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights was installed by HE Serge Telle, Minister of State, in the presence of the participants in the work of the Committee.
Created on 25 October 2018, its mission is to coordinate, implement and evaluate national policies taken to promote equality between women and men and to fight against violence and discrimination against them.
The Minister of State recalled that this Committee is created in accordance with the recommendations of the international monitoring bodies on women’s rights and that “our commitment to women’s rights goes beyond the accession to these conventions. “.
Gilles Tonelli, Government Counselor – Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, Chairman of the Committee, detailed the tasks of this coordinating body and its functioning.
For her part, Céline Cottalorda, delegate for the promotion and protection of women’s rights, presented her role and how she will work with all concerned.
At the end of the meeting, she announced the immediate launch of two measures:
- A study on wage inequalities between women and men in the private and public sectors
- The establishment of indicators on violence against women.
These studies will be piloted by the IMSEE in liaison with the actors involved in the production of data.
During this installation were present the representatives of the relevant governmental authorities, the Directorate of Judicial Services, as well as the elected representatives of the National Council and the Mayor, the High Commissioner for the Protection of Rights, Freedoms and Mediation, the Economic Council and Social and representatives of associations working in the field of women’s rights.
The next meeting of the committee will be held on March 8, 2019.
