The High Commissioner holds meetings with the Monegasque National Council and Economic and Social Council

03 November 2015

On Wednesday 3 November 2015, the High Commissioner met with members of the National Council. During this meeting, she explained the work of her institution in detail and outlined the conclusions of its first annual report, which was published in July this year.

The members of Monaco’s legislative assembly expressed a keen interest in the High Commissioner’s proposals and recommendations, as outlined in the report, and welcomed the Administration’s efforts to date to adjust and modernise its practices, with a view to improving its services to users.

The members of the National Council and the High Commissioner understand the complementary nature of their roles in relation to the Prince’s Government, and the need to ensure that the voices of Monaco’s citizens and residents receive the recognition and attention they deserve. They therefore re-asserted their commitment to working more closely together in the future, and in particular when assessing individual cases brought before their respective institutions. They also agreed to strengthen their cooperation on desirable changes to the legislative framework.

On 1 October 2015, the High Commissioner also met members of the Economic and Social Council to discuss the results of the institution’s first annual activity report. The meeting included extensive discussions on several cases handled by the High Commissioner during this first year, covering the relationship between users and public services, including anti-discrimination cases. These discussions proved particularly useful for members of the Economic and Social Council, who gained a better understanding of the role and missions of the new institution. The High Commissioner, meanwhile, had a chance to gather information and field questions from civil society representatives.
